Dr Rakesh Kumar vats, IAS has taken over the charge as Secretary-General of the Medical Council of India (MCI) as per the official site of MCI which mentions the name of Dr Vats as the new secretary general of the medical council

☆ Dr. Vats serves as an Additional Secretary and Director General (DG) of Central Government Health Schemes (CGHS). The competent Authority has approved the assignment of the Additional Charge for the post of Chairman, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority Under Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
☆ The NPPA is mandated to fix / revise the prices of Controlled Drugs and Formulations and to enforce prices and availability of medicines in the country.
☆ NNPA also monitors the prices of Decontrolled drugs in order to keep them in reasonable Levels.
☆ NNPA also implements and enforces the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order.
☆ NNPA is also entrusted with the task of recovering overcharged amounts by manufacturers on customers for controlled Drugs.
Dr Vats relevant experience as the Director General for CGHS, will be useful in the over all functioning of MCI.

☆ He has taken charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (C&MD) of HLL Lifecare Ltd., Public Sector Enterprise under Union Health Ministry, consisting of 7 entities namely
Parent Company HLL Life care Ltd.
HLL Biotech Ltd.
HLL Infra Tech Services Ltd.
HLL Medipark Ltd.
LifeSpring Hospitals.
Goa Antibiotics and Pharmaceutical Ltd.
Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust.
HLL Management Academy.
Dr. Vats experiences as the C&MD of HLL Lifecare Ltd will be very much useful in framing proper rules and regulations to establish the credibility and efficiency in the functioning of MCI.

He served as Joint Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Director, National Building Construction Corporation Ltd.
Director, Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd.
Director, Hindustan Prefab Ltd.

Doctor Vats has experience of working as financial advisor in the Ministry of Urban Development, in addition to the field experience of revenue administration in the districts and secretariat of the state government.

Dr. Vats replaces Dr. Sanjay Srivastava who had resigned last week. Dr Sanjay Shrivastava Ex Deputy Director General, DGHS, MOHFW had been appointed as the Secretary-General of MCI, to assist the Board of governors in the month of September 2018.

Dr. Vats is a medical professional by education and has experience of working in radiotherapy department for 3 years before joining the administration. Many initiatives of the Ministry of Health in policies related to the use of drugs, medical devices and food standards have been his priority concerns. His contributions as a bureaucrat are laudable in the field of Health care and his real time experience, knowledge and able Leadership will surely improves the standards of (MCI) Medical Education in India and services to the students.
